Patch Test Conditions found in Medical Malpractice Policies are both typical and similar across most of the leading insurers’ wordings. They tend to apply to all laser and pulse light treatments and require the policyholder (therapist) to:
- Undertake a skin patch on each area to be treated at least 24 hours before the commencement of a course of treatment or in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, and
- Undertake a new skin patch test at least twenty-four (24) hours before a treatment if:
a. different area of the body is to be treated;
b. the laser or intense pulsed light machine has been replaced; or
c. the machine has been re-calibrated.
As always, please ensure you record the results of all skin patch tests on the client’s record card and keep for a minimum of 10 years.
Please be aware of and abide by any patch test condition in your policy to ensure that cover is available should a claim arise following the treatment. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact us to discuss in more detail.
